ALBERTA ARTS
Constructing a new ADU served as the jumping off point for redesigning the entire yard of this classic Alberta Arts bungalow. The remaining small back yard would become the domain of the new unit, so the owners wanted a front yard seating area to serve the main house. This informal gravel seating areas is surrounded by cheerful plantings that emphasize sensory edible native and drought tolerant selections. Roses, lavender, catmint, and red flowering currant provide pleasing scents through the growing season. The front steps have extra wide cheek walls to allow bikes to be rolled up, as the property has no driveway. A new bike shed in the side yard serves all of the family’s bike needs.
