42ND AVENUE PLAZA
This project converted an existing landscape strip outside of the Spare Room Restaurant and Lounge into a gathering area with reclaimed wood seating, a small paved area, habitat planting, and a rain garden. It was conceived in response to community requests for more gathering and stopping points along the street, and made possible by funds from the local neighborhood prosperity initiative and by the property owner granting the space to public use.
The project was entirely designed and built by people who live and work in the surrounding community. It is in use year-round as a resting spot where people stop and gather.
Completed: 2016
Collaborators: Our 42nd Avenue (facilitation), Jaret Landscaping (planting and paving), Verde (rain garden), Flat Mountain Builders (bench)
